WORKSHOPS
Alt-Shift-Play is hosting two exciting workshops across the weekend of the exhibition. These workshops are free, hands-on, and offer unique approaches to game design thinking. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
Day 1
Saturday 3rd DecemberWorkshop: Make-a-Thing Jam
with Helen Kwok
In this workshop, artist game-maker Helen Kwok will be sharing her experience with game jams, how it’s helped her artistic practice, and became seeds of ideas to bigger projects. Helen will then facilitate a short but sweet “make-a-thing” challenge with participants. Join us in an afternoon of making and jamming, and meet some fellow artists and game-makers along the way! No prior experience required, and beginners are most welcome. We’ll provide some art materials for the jam session, but feel free to bring your own laptop!
WHEN: 3–5PM, Saturday 3rd December 2022

Day 2
Sunday 4th DecemberWorkshop: Make A One-Page Tabletop Game
with Aaron Lim
Restrictions breed creativity, so in this workshop we will make a game under multiple restrictions and practice our creativity. The game will fit onto one A4 page, and it will be playable within 2 hours. Workshop host Aaron Lim will be showing some examples of one-page tabletop games, explaining why these sorts of games are useful in game design practice and industry, and run participants through some methods and ideas on how to make small games quickly. No prior game design knowledge is required.
